The SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo Cake Decorating competition is open to all (beginners to experts).
To enter, submit your application below. No pictures are needed. Just fill out the quick form below and you’re done!
Arrival & Departure: Cakes should arrive between 8:00am and 8:45am Saturday, and should be picked up no later than 5:00pm Sunday. Cakes that have not been picked up by 5:15pm will be discarded. On day of arrival, allow time to park and to transport your cake. Be mindful of crowds and plan accordingly. Allow extra time to assemble or add the final touches to your cake. Judging will commence at 10am.
Rules: Submission MUST be the work of the contestant solely; no teams or collaborations will be accepted. Parents or guardians of youth contestants may assist with baking and/or transporting cake submissions, but all assembly and decorating must be done by the contestant only.
A minimum of 5 entries must be received for any category. Failure to reach the minimum will result in a cancellation of that contest.
Entries may be photographed and used for promotional purposes; all photos taken during event become the property of The Sweet Life Cake Supply and SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo.
On Saturday, April 11: A list of items used on submission piece and 3 in process photos must be included with your physical cake on Saturday, April 11. Photos should be of the cake only; the contestant should not be visible in the photo. Additional accessories not on cake, backdrops, or any advertising (business cards, pictures, pamphlets, etc.) are not allowed.
Judging: Judges reserve the right to reclassify, refuse, or disqualify an entry if necessary. All decisions made by judges are final. Contest entries will be judged based on their originality, creativity, quality, difficulty of execution, and overall appearance.
Judges may not enter any decorating contest. Judges may not evaluate a division where they know a contestant.
Liability: SoFlo Cake And Candy Expo is not liable for any lost or damaged accessories (stands etc). SoFlo Cake And Candy Expo may make changes or amendments to the Decorating Contest rules and regulations at any time, at their discretion, and without prior notice.
Amateur & Expert Requirements:Cake base should be no larger than 20” X 20”. Maximum display area is 24”. Tables and table skirts will be provided.3D cakes are welcomed. Tiered cakes should have a minimum of three inches in height between tiers. Piece must be a minimum of 10” and a maximum of 30” in height. Cake dummies, cake boards, and supports are allowed. No commercial store-bought decorations are allowed unless they have been significantly modified from their original state. No moving parts are allowed.
Cupcake Tower Requirements:Cupcake base should be no larger than 20” X 20”. Maximum display area is 24”. Tables and table skirts will be provided. Cupcake tower entries must have a minimum of 3 levels. Cupcake Tower stand and cupcake wrappers will be evaluated as part of the cake, and will be judged accordingly.3D cupcakes are welcomed. Cake boards and supports are allowed. No commercial store-bought decorations are allowed unless they have been significantly modified from their original state. No moving parts are allowed.
Themed Cake Requirements:
To compete in the Themed Cake contest, your cake must fully incorporate the theme: SoFlo (South Florida). For example: Miami Beach, South Florida Beaches, Miami, etc. What comes to mind when you think of South Florida?
Cake base should be no larger than 20” X 20”. Maximum display area is 24”. Tables and table skirts will be provided.
3D cakes are welcomed. Tiered cakes should have a minimum of three inches in height between tiers. Piece must be a minimum of 10” and a maximum of 50” in height. Cake dummies, cake boards, and supports are allowed.
No commercial store-bought decorations are allowed unless they have been significantly modified from their original state. No moving parts are allowed.
Themed Cookies Requirements:
To compete in the Themed Cookie contest, your cake must fully incorporate the theme: SoFlo (South Florida). For example: Miami Beach, South Florida Beaches, Miami, etc. What comes to mind when you think of South Florida?
Cookie display should be no larger than 20” X 20”. Maximum display area is 24”. Tables and table skirts will be provided.
All cookie entries must be 100% edible and non-toxic.
Youth Requirements:
Age 9 - 15 only may enter for Youth competition. A signed Parent Consent form must be submitted along with entry on day of contest.
